1. Pray that the power-sharing government in Kenya will choose to work together and find ways to solve problems and promote growth in Kenya. Right now cooperation between President Kibaki and Prime Minister Odinga is breaking down. Please pray that God will provide peace and cooperation between these two leaders.
2. Pray that the Made in the Streets land dispute will end in justice and peace. An influential Member of Parliament has illegally seized a piece of land that belongs to MITS and built a school on the property. Just this past month, the judge ruled in favor of the Member of Parliament even though MITS owns title to the land. Unfortunately, the Kenyan legal system is still plagued with graft at times, and it appears that may be a factor in this loss for MITS. The win has also emboldened the MP to seize more land from Made in the Streets. Pray for a clear win on appeal. Pray for a non violent resolution to this unjust act. Please pray that God will protect the work that He has begun at MITS so that many more children will be able to leave the streets and live whole lives.
3. Pray for our safe travel. (We fly from Minneapolis to London on June 16/17; London to Nairobi on June 18; Nairobi to London on July 1/2; London to Reykjavik on July 7; and Reykjavik to Minneapolis on July 9.)
4. Pray that we will be able to safely manage our son’s peanut allergy on airlines, the two day safari, in Iceland, in the UK, and in Kenya. We have carefully checked into every leg of our trip and had many conversations with doctors here and people in each country, but we know that unforeseen events arise. Pray that he will not come into contact with peanuts.
5. Pray for the Nairobi Viva Network caregivers. Each day they work to love, protect, and rebuild the lives of vulnerable children. Pray that they will have the energy, compassion, and resources to sustain the important work they are doing.
6. Pray that our family will be shaped and molded by God through this experience. Pray that both of our children will make new friends and see hope and love at work in a third world country. Pray that this experience will guide and prepare them to be servants in God’s kingdom in the future.
7. Pray that we will all be sensitive to the lives of the people in Kenya, and that we may be a blessing to many people.
